A Palm Device to Help Detect Anthrax?
TECHNOLOGY October 29, 2001 / Znews.com -- According to the Center for Emergency Response Technology, Instruction & Policy (CERTIP) the police and firemen on the front line of biological incidents currently do not have standardized methods to identify hazardous biological and chemical agents.
GTRI is currently working on a "decision aid matrix" that will outline a methodology for identification of chemical or biological agents based on observable medical symptoms. The decision matrix will be accessible through a palm-top device and allows first-responders to collect general data on patients, such as height, weight, and gender. It also allows them to collect data on specific fifteen symptoms, such as sweating, twitching, etc.
From the data entered, the system will provide a probability of the specific types of chemical or biological agents that might be involved, as well as information on treatment options.
