InterNIC?

FEATURE STORY:
InterNIC, a service of private company Network
Solutions, is the outfit responsible for registering, billing and keeping
track of all new domain names. They've been swamped with calls and requests
recently, though they're certainly registering a lot faster than they did
several months ago, when registering a domain name could take from six to
eight weeks for a regular person with no pull in the industry. (Insiders
could always get the job done ASAP). With new domain registrations bringing
in $100 each for the first two years of domain "ownership" the
Herndon, Virgina company is raking in the cash, but hasn't been able to
keep up with the work load. Placing a phone call to InterNIC is likely to
give you some good practice with your phone's redial function, as well as
recalibrate your internal tempo to that of the monotonous busy signal you're
sure to reach. On the bright site, according to inside sources, InterNIC is working on installing a 3-level privacy system for authorizing owner requests to alter domain name information. Owners may choose from three levels of security, the top level being the old standard, PGP ("Pretty Good Privacy") encryption software. Currently, security for site registration and alteration is a real human operation, with InterNIC agents calling owners for verbal and written verification.
A look into the Employment Opportunities file also provides some hope: InterNIC is hiring a slew of new billing rep's to help process new orders. And you can even pay with your credit card.
If you've got a domain you want registered, check here to make sure it's not already taken. Unless it's a combination of words, or some obscure term, it's probably been scooped up already...
